Anyone interested in Formula One has endless sources ofinformation, including specialist publications, books, televisionprograms, and the daily press. However, none of these gives muchidea about how modem Formula One cars really work. These sourcestouch on various technical details, but the overall picture remainsa mystery. As a result, some of the most interesting aspects ofFormula One are lost to all but the initiates who actually work inthe paddock.

This book is likely to change all that. It is the firstsystematic explanation ofthe technical side of modern Grand Prixracing. As such, it will be essential reading for any seriousfollower of Formula One and of immense help to aspiring drivers andengineers in other forms of racing.

The FIA receives letters and e-mails from all over the worldwith suggestions, comments, and criticisms. Unfortunately, most ofthese miss the point because of lack of technical information andunderstanding. This book is capable ofproviding what has beenmissing. I think it will have a significant impact.
